Rudolf Steiner´s lecture cycles on the folk souls ("Die Mission einzelner Volksseelen") has touched many people. Their content can be provoking as well as inspiring. In the course, Steiner emphasises the necessity of the phenomena that each single folk – regardless of size and culture – plays a unique instrument with a specific voice in "the orchestra of mankind". And in the introduction, Steiner stresses that if you can remain unaffected by what rises from your own nationality, you will be able to receive the actual challenge and task of mankind. Unaffected – but not unconscious! Because at the same time it is important to recognise oneself as a part of one´s own culture. The one who is homeless – who has become a true citizen of the world – also knows that he is in great debt of gratitude to his own native culture. The course on the folk souls can also be read as a powerful – almost hymnical request to the Nordic countries and the possibilities within the culture there. But there have been only few opportunities to meet and develop further the great motives in the lectures on the folk souls – and there is very little working- and study material on the subject. The remarkable fact is that "the porridge is extremely thin" regarding 'the Nordic' – after 250 years of scholar´s analysing habits and traditions. The inside remains hidden – until each individual through inner work and activity, achieves an insight. Knowledge that does not include my thought, feeling and will so deeply that it transforms me, becomes a burden, yes, can even be harmful. The one who has ears that hear, can observe that Heimdallur is blowing for a feast: "The art is the God´s child that bewares the human being from sinking down into the lie" (Rudolf Steiner 1919).

At the meeting there are opportunities to paint in nature, study landscapes, learn to understand and to ride horses, practice clowning, discuss themes from the Folk-soul-lectures, practice eurhythmy, shaping with clay and stone and more. Further, there will be lectures with themes such as "The Hammer of Thor and the Development of the Ego-Forces", "Frey and Svipdag", "Baldur and Hödr", "Northern and Southern Mysteries", "Effects of angelic beings in time and in people", "Homelessness and time challenges", and much more.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

The "wanderseminar" (including the conference) takes place from June, 30 – July, 14 2010. The seminar is international and will proceed in Nordic languages, German and English. English translation will be provided when a lecture is given in any of the other languages.

The seminar is divided into three parts:

  1. trips and hikes through the Icelandic landscapes
  2. the conference itself with lectures and workshops as well as shorter excursions,
  3. new trips and hikes.

The price for the entire wanderseminar is NOK 11.000 and includes all trips, food and accommodation at the Waldorfschool, in huts, youth hostels and eventual camping, as well as the conference itself (7 - 11 July). Those who prefer staying in hotels pay that themselves. Hotels are not available everywhere so during the first part of the seminar one night will be spent in a hut and the same is for the last part of the seminar.

The conference itself takes place at Solheimar (the first home for curative education in the Nordic countries, founded in 1930 by Sesselja Sigmundsdottir). Participation only in the conference costs NOK 7.000 (everything included). You can chose to only take part in the first part of the Wanderseminar and the conference itself. The cost is then NOK 9500 (everything included)

Twenty five places are reserved for younger people, long-distance participants and people with special needs. Here the price is NOK 8.500 (the entire seminar) and NOK 5.000 (only the conference at Solheimar), and NOK 7.500 for the first half part of the Wanderseminar and the conference. The registration fee is 30% (NOK 3.300) of the conference fee to be paid when registered.
