Postgraduate Qualifications and Steiner Education

The Auckland University of Technology has for several years had a Steiner education specialism in its BEd programme. This specialist interest is now being extended to the postgraduate level-both doctoral level (PhD or EdD) and for the MEd (which includes the PgradDipEd or a PgradCertEd).

In 2007 we had two doctoral students specialising in this area, and we began a new masters paper, Steiner education: Theory & contemporary perspectives  with twelve students in the initial intake. In addition, another paper, The authentic teacher: Beliefs into action, incorporates Steiner education as does the textbook for this paper.

Typically for a Masters in Education, students need to complete a paper on educational research methods, a fourth paper, and a thesis which for people interested in Steiner education will link with their interest. The fourth paper may be selected from a list of other masters papers. This list includes Examining professional practice and a "Reading paper", both of which give scope for a focus on Steiner related work.

Anyone interested in finding out more should contact either Andy Begg,  who leads the postgraduate education programmes at AUT or Paul White, the senior lecturer in Steiner education.
